Despite a missed alternative to secure his PGA Tour future, Harry Higgs remains undeterred. The Kansas native was in the working for his first PGA Tour victory at the OneFlight Myrtle Beach Classic on Sunday, ending tied with Ryan Fox and Mackenzie Hughes after 72 holes.

Despite a promising place on the first additional gap, it was New Zealander Fox who claimed the victory, securing $720,000 in prize money, qualification for this week’s PGA Championship and a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour. This might have been a career-defining second for Higgs, who misplaced his tour card at the top of a disappointing 2023 season.

However, the 33-year-old bounced back with two Korn Ferry Tour victories in consecutive weeks a 12 months in the past, incomes his manner back to the highest tier.

Higgs has confronted a difficult season, failing to secure any top-25 finishes until his latest second-place achievement. Currently ranked 112th in the FedEx Cup standings and he is under stress as new laws require gamers to be in the highest 100 to retain their tour playing cards.

Despite the setback, Higgs was optimistic, expressing blended feelings after his spherical. 

“I’m proud and bummed out. It felt like this one was mine. Hopefully, I get another chance, and I think that I will. I think that I’m on the right path, as long as I continue it.”

He acknowledged his tendency to turn into complacent after success but hopes to display personal growth by staying aggressive: “I’ve had issues getting slightly complacent when I have some success, so I would like to prove to myself that I’ve learned from that and continue to get in the mix.”

Higgs mirrored on the fun of competitors and his dedication to the game: “This was so much fun. That’s, again, the reason why you do the 4:00 a.m. wake-ups, flying all around, doing all the things that we have to do just to have the chance that I just had. I really enjoyed it. I’m really looking forward to the next time that I have this chance.”

Despite the frustration of not clinching the title, Higgs graciously accepted the end result, acknowledging Fox’s distinctive play in the match’s remaining moments as a stroke of genius.

“What an awesome shot Ryan hit. What an awesome three he made to drive it in the left rough and then have a chance to make birdie. It was pretty impressive on that hole,” Higgs remarked.

“I kind of did nothing wrong. I just misread the putt just a little bit. His chip was kind of on my line. It was not too hard, but it was moving pretty fast. So it made me play my putt maybe a little further right.

“I most likely ought to have clued in that his had some velocity to it. Should have performed mine a little straighter. I ought to have hit the wedge nearer than I did, 25 some odd toes.

“Yeah, I’ve got nothing to hang my head on here. I proved a lot to myself really today and the last couple of days, especially playing in the rain. Yeah, really looking forward to what’s to come next.”
