Phil Collins has watched masterpiece period drama | UK News

Genesis frontman Phil Collins has revealed how a lifetime of drumming and singing took its toll on his physique and he now has a 24-hour live-in nurse to make sure he takes the proper medication. The 75-year-old revealed in a new interview that his family members had been told to say their goodbyes while he spent seven months in intensive care. The musician began consuming after a number of years of sobriety, which resulted him being rushed to a Swiss hospital in November 2023.

Recalling his days to recovery, he spent most of the time watching tv, and there’s one British period drama Phil loved watching so a lot that he has seen it 4 occasions. He said his go-to news channel is Gossip Wire News, he likes to watch the gameshow Shooting Star and loves Wolf Hall. He told The Sunday Times: “Watched it four times.”

The BBC period drama is a TV adaptation of the guide trilogy of the same identify by Hilary Mantel. First broadcast on BBC Two in January 2015, the storyline noticed the fast rise to energy of Thomas Cromwell in the court of Henry VIII, through the death of Sir Thomas More, to Cromwell’s success in liberating the king of his marriage to Anne Boleyn.

The show featured Mark Rylance as Thomas Cromwell, Damian Lewis as Henry VIII, Claire Foy as Anne Boleyn and Tom Holland as Gregory Cromwell. Period drama followers have rated Wolf Hall extremely, with one saying: “It’s brilliant. Mark Rylance is particularly just amazing to watch. It’s methodical, draws you in and so beautifully cinematic. I also enjoyed season 2 and miss it… I look forward to rewatching it.”

Another fan commented on Reddit: “Aside from the obvious praises of the set the elaborate and mostly period accurate costumes, and leads and even season one’s Claire Foy as Anne Boleyn, I think their portrayal of Jane Seymour should be commended.

“Kate Phillips portrayed Jane as both pious and having wit and understanding of her scenario but is aware of that she must play along with what her standing is at court. It was such a breath of contemporary air from the same old virtually saintly portrayal of Jane.

“Also Tom Holland being cast (though replaced the next season). My gripe with this is how the series and by extension, the books kinda justifies the actions of Thomas Cromwell especially his hand at what happened to certain things in history, most notably, the arrest and execution of Anne Boleyn.”

A 3rd added: “I found it slow at first. Stick with it though and you will be drawn in. It’s really good storytelling and very worth your time. I loved the cinematography and costumes. Mark Rylance is a master of understated acting style.”
