The 2026 Masters event will go on without two of the most important names in golf.
Three-time Masters champ Phil Mickelson announced in a Thursday X post that he’ll miss this 12 months’s festivities in Augusta due to a household health issue that will keep him “out for an extended period of time.”
“Unfortunately, I will not play in the Masters Tournament next week and will be out for an extended period of time as my family continues to navigate a personal health matter,” Mickelson’s post read. “I’ve great respect for Augusta National Golf Club and it’s undoubtedly the most particular week of the 12 months.
“I wish everyone the best of luck and will be watching.”

Mickelson’s announcement comes just days after it was announced that Tiger Woods wouldn’t be at Augusta National following his DUI arrest in Jupiter Island, Fla., in which the 15-time major champion rolled his Land Rover over after clipping the back of a truck.
“We know how much Phil loves the Masters tournament and he will be missed by everyone in Augusta next week,” Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley said in a assertion. “He has our complete supports as he takes time to be with his family.”
Mickelson, 55, missed 4 LIV Golf occasions earlier this 12 months, saying he needed “to be present for a family health matter.”
He didn’t share any further info about his absence.
