Plane Crashes, Armed Teachers, and Real Estate – | Political News
The other day, the oddest factor occurred. I went outdoors, and elements of the sky had been a unusual coloration, kind of a pale blue, and there was this big, shiny factor up there. Not sure what was going on, but I believe it triggered some historical reminiscences.
With the warming climate, more people are beginning up spring and summer time actions. Out and about, we’re seeing more ATVs, no more snow machines; I’ve had my own ATVs out, but haven’t gone too far afield yet. Soon.
Now, as for this week’s Alaska news: First up, we have now the unhappy story of an airplane crash on the Knik glacier.
Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a airplane crash close to the Knik Glacier on the night of May 5, 2026. A small plane crashed on a distant airstrip where a group of pilots had gathered. Off-duty medical personnel who had been already in the world immediately started offering assist and reported the plane was on fire upon influence. Alaska is all about civil aviation. The Great Land wouldn’t be what it’s without those little bush planes hopping from touchdown strip to sandbar to meadow, but the draw back it, sometimes issues like this occur.

Now, this is fascinating: Our own Matanuska-Susitna Borough is contemplating permitting lecturers to carry handguns.
The Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District is scheduled to think about a proposal that would pay lecturers, workers and contractors to carry handguns at colleges in the borough.
The transfer, billed as a security measure, could be the first of its type by a college district in Alaska.
Current state law forbids anybody from carrying a hid firearm on college grounds without the permission of a district’s chief administrative officer.
Board Policy 3515, as the idea is formally recognized, would set up a formalized coverage for the Mat-Su college district’s superintendent to grant that permission. It is scheduled for initial dialogue Wednesday night. No vote is predicted.
School shootings aren’t a factor right here the best way they’re in some elements of the nation. But this is a good concept nonetheless. When you need a gun, you need it immediately, and when you need a gun, nothing else will do. As long as the lecturers own the gun legally, they 1) gained’t be a drawback and 2) have that constitutional proper to carry. Alaska is a constitutional carry state, and while property homeowners have the best to prohibit hid sidearms (not many do, up right here) the colleges have historically been off-limits. That could also be altering.
Alaska Man rating: Five concealed-carry rigs. Even in rural Alaska, this isn’t a dangerous concept.
