Plane headed to LAX diverted to GJ airport due to ‘unruly passenger’ | Latest Travel News
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) – A Breeze Airways aircraft was diverted to the Grand Junction Regional Airport (GJT) on Wednesday morning because of an “unruly passenger,” according to the Grand Junction Police Department (GJPD).
The particular person, who was not named in the GJPD news release, was reportedly intoxicated before changing into agitated and yelling racist slurs at airline employees while waving a skateboard. The passenger was allegedly restrained twice but broke out of them each time.

Although initial studies said the suspect assaulted somebody, GJPD said no one was struck and no accidents have been reported.
After touchdown, the passenger was taken into custody by GJPD at the direction of the FBI. He was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility.
FBI officers told WesternSlopeNow that Los Angeles man David Leroy Carter Jr., 46, was arrested for the incident. The investigation is ongoing. Further data on expenses might be offered by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Colorado or made out there by the federal court, according to the FBI.
The aircraft initially departed from the Norfolk International Airport in Virginia and was heading to the Los Angeles International Airport before it was diverted.
A GJT spokesperson said Breeze Airways is working on getting another aircraft for the passengers to fly to Los Angeles.
A spokesperson with Breeze Airways said in a assertion to WesternSlopeNow relating to the incident, “Our focus now is on taking care of our Crew and remaining Guests who have been unfairly inconvenienced by this unfortunate event and getting them safely to their final destination as quickly as possible.”
The Grand Junction Fire Department also responded to the incident.
