Queestion Times Fiona Bruce erupts I am taking | UK News
Question Time presenter Fiona Bruce was compelled to “take back control” on the BBC show following a heated debate between Welsh MP’s Rhun ap Iowherth and Labour MP Sir Chris Byrant. During Thursday’s instalment (April 3) of the politics night show, the 60-year0old broadcaster quizzed the MPs about whether or not devolution has made life higher for people of Wales.
She started by asking Rhun why Wales wants more politicians per head of the population than England or Scotland. The broadcaster defined: ” Why do you need one member of the senate for 32,200 people in Wales? In Scotland you’ve got one MSP per 42,000, in England there’s one in every 104,000. So why in Wales do you need it per 32,000? Why do you need more politicians per head?”
He merely replied: “I believe we should have fair representation in democracy” to which she countered: “So having more is fair?”. The MP went on: “Well, having the numbers we’ve had compared with Northern Ireland and Scotland, certainly in the last 26 years, every independent study that has ever been held in the state of democracy has said that we need the tools to do the job.
“It’s very important to put it into context as a result of these sound like massive numbers. There’s a job being carried out on the homes of parliament, refurbishment of the building in Westminster”.
It was at this point that Fiona interrupted the politician for going off topic. She fumed: “Are we not fairly far off the subject now Rhun?” Throughout her efforts to move on, Rhun kept talking over her to try and get his point across. Fiona was left shouting almost at the top of her lungs to silence the MP, fuming: “Rhun I’m going to stop you as a result of that’s simply not on.
“Rhun please stop talking because we’re not talking about the refurbishment of Westminster, we’re talking about devolution is supposed to be the better outcome. I’m not sure that’s got anything to do with the refurbishment of Westminster”.
He countered: “Why is it not? I think it has everything to do with the refurbishment of Westminster” which prompted Fiona to ask the viewers for his or her opinion.
She stated: “Does anyone else think it’s got anything to do with the refurbishment of Westminster?” to which they unanimously replied: “No.”
