Tracey Yukich, a featured voice in the documentary, recounts her journey as a competitor. Tracey, who participated in season eight, characterizes the experience as transformative, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Yet, this wasn’t solely because of her weight discount. During one particularly punishing problem designed by the show’s creators, she claims to have encountered a near-death incident. During their first major problem of the sequence, contestants had been taken from the ranch where they spent most of their time to a waterfront location.

Camera crews captured them from helicopters and on the ground. A mile-long course was set up along the seashore to check each new contestant before they had correctly begun their fitness transformations. Tracey pushed through and in the end collapsed.

This disturbing second was caught on movie, with other contestants expressing real concern. Medical personnel rushed to help and might be heard repeatedly saying that Tracey wasn’t responding.

Looking back on the incident for the documentary, Tracey remembers: “I’m running, and my legs feel really heavy. Like lead. What’s happening right then is my body’s starting to shut down. I might not make it. But I told myself ‘I’m gonna do it’ because I wanted to change my life.” Tracey is then shown on the show, unable to get up and struggling to discuss as she begins crawling toward the end line. Other contestants then come over to present help.

However, as they encompass her and cheer her on, she loses consciousness.

“I don’t remember a lot,” Tracey remembers. “I remember hearing the helicopter. I just felt like I was floating. And then my grandpa was there. And then I saw darkness. But then I saw light. So I knew, I knew I died that day.”

During filming, producers initially thought Tracey had suffered heat stroke. However, she later revealed she had developed rhabdomyolysis, a lethal muscle condition.

“My organs were literally shutting down. I didn’t realise that I had rhabdomyolysis. And rhabdomyolysis is your body’s way of saying ‘I’m going to shut down on you’. It started with my liver, then it was in my kidneys and then it goes to your heart. And that’s where I almost died.”

Tracey remembers being so weak she could not even get out of mattress to use the toilet, and she may still really feel grit and sand under her fingernails. Doctors warned her they may need to carry out major surgical procedure to help her get better.

She also credit the show’s medical advisor, Dr Robert Huizenga, as the only particular person who understood just how sick she had turn out to be. Dr Huizenga also discloses in the documentary that the show failed to inform him about the problem Tracey and her fellow contestants had been endeavor. Despite her harrowing ordeal and continued bodily weak spot, Tracey stayed on the show. She managed to make it to week eight, when she was voted off by viewers.
