Several Republicans are calling for a a lot more thorough investigation into the deadly taking pictures of 37-year-old Alex Pretti. 

The Associated Press reported that House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Andrew Garbarino is searching for testimony from leaders of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency, Customs and Border Protection, and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. “My top priority remains keeping Americans safe,” Garbarino said.

Several other Republicans, including Rep. Michael McCaul of Texas and Sens. Thom Tillis of North Carolina, Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, Susan Collins of Maine, and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, have also expressed their want for more info. Even the staunchest of the president’s allies have called for some type of probe. Sen. Pete Ricketts demanded a “prioritized, transparent investigation.” 

“My support for funding ICE remains the same,” the Nebraska Republican, who is up for reelection, said online. “But we must also maintain our core values as a nation, including the right to protest and assemble.”

The president and other officials have asserted that Pretti, an ICU nurse, was carrying a “very harmful gun, a harmful and unpredictable gun,” including, “It’s a gun that goes off when people don’t realize it.” It was reported by the Department of Homeland Security that Pretti was carrying a 9mm semiautomatic handgun.

The taking pictures occurred at 9:05 a.m. Saturday, during an operation by DHS law enforcement officers who have been looking for an unlawful alien needed for violent assault.
