Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Thursday that the United States would immediately stop issuing work visas for commercial truck drivers.
Rubio made the announcement in a social media post on X Thursday afternoon and said the coverage would take impact immediately.
“The increasing number of foreign drivers operating large tractor-trailer trucks on U.S. roads is endangering American lives and undercutting the livelihoods of American truckers,” Rubio posted. The division didn’t immediately reply to a query about the quantity of international truck drivers working in the U.S.
The Trump administration in past months has taken steps to implement the requirement that truckers converse and read English proficiently.
