Ryder Cup host Heather McMahan has publicly responded to the extreme criticism she’s confronted following her involvement in leading a profanity-laced chant focusing on Rory McIlroy at the distinguished event.

During Saturday’s opening four-ball match, where McIlroy partnered with Shane Lowry, the golfer endured relentless heckling from rowdy spectators at Bethpage Black Golf Course.

Prior to the morning foursomes getting underway, McMahan failed to calm the boisterous crowd while directing numerous chants. At the first tee, she was noticed yelling “F— you Rory!” through a megaphone as grandstand attendees joined in.

The following day, the PGA Tour revealed that McMahan had apologized to McIlroy for her conduct and stepped down from her Ryder Cup function.

“Heather McMahan has extended an apology to Rory Mcllroy and Ryder Cup Europe and has stepped down from hosting the first tee of the Ryder Cup,” an official assertion read.

Turning to social media, the actress and comic posted: “Guys, I’m having a glass of wine… It’s been a f—— day.” On Monday, McMahan voiced regret for her half in the verbal assault on McIlroy but maintained that the backlash against her has been “Salem-witch esque.

“It’s was a actually powerful scene,” McMahan responded to a TikTok video where user @pamelawurstvetrini strongly supported her. “I didn’t start the chant but I deeply remorse responding back to the group – I apologized but I agree it little Salem-witch esque blaming me for the New York sports activities scene.”

Looking forward to future Ryder Cups, McIlroy made it clear that the unacceptable behavior of fans at Bethpage should never be allowed at the biennial event. “Look, I do not assume we must always ever settle for that in golf,” he said after Team Europe’s 15-13 victory.

“I feel golf ought to be held to a greater normal than what was seen on the market this week. Golf has the flexibility to unite people. Golf teaches you superb life classes. It teaches you etiquette. It teaches you how to play by the principles. It teaches you how to respect people.

“Sometimes this week we didn’t see that. So no, this should not be what is acceptable in the Ryder Cup. But you know, we will be making sure to say to our fans in Ireland in 2027 that what happened here this week is not acceptable.

“Come and assist your home workforce,” McIlroy continued. “I feel if I used to be an American, I might be irritated that … I did not hear a lot of shouts for Scottie today, but I heard a lot of shouts against me. It’s like, assist your gamers. That’s the factor.

“Look, it was a rough week for all of us. But at the same time, we shut them up by our performance and how we played.

“I chirped back a few instances because it bought to me a few instances, but we tried to deal with all the pieces that got here our approach with class and poise, and for the most half, I felt like we did that.”
