Shane Lowry confessed his frustration after discovering he would not have the option to secure his Ryder Cup spot with his displaying at the Tour Championship this week.

“Yeah, I only found out about that Monday,” Lowry admitted. “I thought I was guaranteed getting points this week. I thought I was going to be pretty much guaranteed on the team. Yeah, I was somewhat disappointed to hear that. But the rules were made at the start for qualifying, and that was it. I think I finished four points behind Tyrrell, which is pretty much a shot, which would have been nice.

“But clearly I do not know what Rasmus goes to do this weekend, but it seems like he is most likely going to move me up and I’m going to need a choose next week, so hopefully I get a good cellphone call off Luke.”

Lowry has racked up four top-10 finishes this season, including two second-place results, but victory has eluded him so far.

Despite this, the Irish golfer believes his performance record will secure him a spot on the team heading to Bethpage Black in New York, and he’s focusing on fine-tuning his game in the upcoming weeks to support the team – if he gets selected.
