One of Taylor Swift‘s songwriting heroes is praising her for getting the masters of her first six albums back after a long battle.

The 35-year-old reportedly dropped a whopping $360 million to reclaim the rights to her music, marking a important victory in her battle for inventive control, and music legend Carole King is impressed.

After Swift shared the excellent news in an Instagram post on Friday, May 30, the singer-songwriter, 83, reposted the announcement on her own account, and added a particular message.

“You continue to inspire!,” King wrote on her Instagram Stories over a photograph of Swift raising her palms in celebration.

While Swift has not publicly reacted to the Where You Lead singer’s reward, she was possible touched.

During her speech, Swift also shared the knowledge she acquired from King that may be very related now in her profession now.

“Carole taught artists like me that telling your own story is worth the work and struggle it takes to earn the opportunity for your story to be heard,” Swift said.

Before to the 2021 induction ceremony — where Swift also performed a tribute to King, covering Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow? — the two singer-songwriters crossed paths many times at other music industry events.

It’s rare to see all those talents in one person, but that defines Taylor Swift,” King mentioned while presenting the award. “She is one of the only modern pop artists whose name appears as the sole songwriter in her song credits.”

“Her lyrics resonate across the generations, her songs touch everyone and her impact around the world is extraordinary,” the singer added. “The past decade has been incredible for this brilliant artist, and the best is yet to come.”

Now, Swift has made her mark on the music industry simply by acquiring back her masters, something fans are praising as well.

In 2019, music mogul Scooter Braun took over Big Machine Records, Swift’s previous label, acquiring the masters of her early works—albums like Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, and Reputation.

Swift fought back by re-recording these albums as “Taylor’s Version,” allowing her to own her music and its profits. In 2020, Braun flipped the masters to Shamrock Capital for a hefty $405 million.

Despite the transaction, Braun remained connected to the rights, an arrangement Swift refused to endorse.

She turned down an offer from Shamrock that would have left Braun in the picture, holding out for total ownership. On Friday, the superstar shared on her official website that she had successfully bought back her masters from Shamrock Capital.

In her Instagram post announcing the news, Swift reflected on her long journey, writing: “I virtually stopped pondering it may ever occur, after 20 years of having the carrot dangled and then yanked away. But that’s all in the previous now.”
