‘The BBC has ended Starmer’s career – it fanned the | UK News
One BBC show appeared to shoot its own company in the foot as it questioned whether or not the publicly-funded broadcaster had “fanned the flames” of chaos in Westminster, opening up a route for Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham to problem prime minister Keir Starmer in a management contest.
On Newswatch – a show that airs viewer opinions of occasions lined by BBC News, with responses from the editors in charge – viewer Judith Brown had her say on the current authorities disaster, blaming the Beeb for sowing seeds of chaos in the Westminster bubble. She said on the programme: “They’re trying to make the news, not report the news.
“For example, they could have said, ‘Reform did very well in the council elections, the prime minister is in his post, carrying on his work’. All that is a fact. But instead all you got was exaggeration and, ‘Ooh, crisis, is Labour going to last?’ and all the rest of it.
“It was just ridiculous. Grown adults behaving like fleas on roadkill. Baying at parliamentarians. This is not who we are. I can tell you now, your bubble that you all exist in, the Westminster bubble, it doesn’t mean anything to people like us.”
She explained: “Because we’re concerned about- I’m concerned about my grandchildren being able to afford a house, if ever. I’m concerned about when I go to the supermarket, will the prices still be the same? I’m concerned about my electricity bill.
“I’m concerned about all these everyday things that affect my life, and what I want is a government that’s going to help me with these things, not spend their time cutting each other’s throats and being egged on by the BBC.”
Viewers on social media rushed to agree with Judith, with one tweeting: “I think you clearly have your answer to this (rhetorical) question. BBC News didn’t just fan the flames, it threw the original incendiary device in!”
Someone else mused: “BBC News wasn’t the worst, by a long way. But they did contribute.”
