The GOPs Big Senate Seat Flip Opportunity That Is

Understandably, a lot of national consideration has been paid in current weeks to the Senate races going down in Michigan and Georgia, primarily because, in both races, there are Democrat nominees who have notably acute circumstances of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) and who cannot keep themselves from stepping in it.

In the Great Lakes State, for occasion, we’ve the anti-America, anti-Israel, DSA-backed Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed, who, as I beforehand famous, has the social media “skills,” persona, and maturity of the average tween TikTook’er.  The seat is at the moment held by retiring Democrat Sen. Gary Peters.

And in the Peach State, there’s Sen. Jon Ossoff, who apparently thinks it is cute to casually smear a younger cancer survivor who occurs to be a top aide to President Trump by baselessly insinuating they have been having an affair. The bulk of “Pee Wee” Ossoff’s marketing campaign funding, I ought to word, is from out of state (and from at least 39 billionaires), which, of course, isn’t a good look and tells us to whom he would continue to be most beholden if reelected.

While those are seen as pickup alternatives for the GOP, there’s another one where the political climate also appears ripe for a flip relying on how properly the ground sport is performed: New Hampshire.

The main in the Granite State is not until September 8, but if current polling trends maintain, it is shaping up to be a contest that includes Democrat Rep. Chris Pappas (NH-01), who is backed by unions, pro-abortion and gun control teams, versus Trump-backed former Sen. John E. Sununu, who beforehand held the seat for one time period before Democrat Jeanne Shaheen defeated him in 2008 (Shaheen is retiring after this time period). Before he was elected to the Senate, Sununu was a congressman for six years in the district that Pappas has represented since 2019.

As to how both are campaigning, this is how that’s seemed so far:

Pappas is working as a champion of the center class, focusing on bringing down the associated fee of residing, supporting public training and defending Medicaid and Social Security.

“These are the only two people who have been elected as Democrats to the Senate from New Hampshire in the last half a century,” Pappas told WBUR, calling the approaching election “a game of inches.”

For his half, Sununu is working as a conventional conservative, promising to decrease taxes and cut laws “and make government work again.” He’s being helped by national Republican tremendous PACs, who have already spent thousands and thousands of {dollars} backing his marketing campaign.

As a former senator, whose father and brother both served as New Hampshire governors, Sununu represents one thing akin to political royalty in the state.

As to what a hypothetical match at the moment appears to be like like between the 2, recent polling from the University of New Hampshire (UNH) and 7NEWS exhibits a tight race, “statistically tied,”  but with Sununu having a slight edge:

The last hypothetical common election race polling executed by UNH, which was back in June, confirmed Pappas forward of Sununu by three p.c.  

To advance, Pappas wants to get by newcomer and self-described “peace activist” Karishma Manzur, who socialists in the state are said to be rallying behind. She has “significantly narrowed the gap,” which is down to 13 p.c, while 18 p.c are undecided.

On the GOP aspect, former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown is difficult Sununu, but appears to be going nowhere, with the RealClearPolitics polling average exhibiting Sununu forward by 33 p.c.
