Trump admits Ukraine war little bit more | Political News
President Donald Trump admitted Wednesday that ending the battle between Ukraine and Russia was proving to be “a little more difficult” than he initially thought.
The president’s feedback come after he has spent the last eight months in the White House trying to secure a peace between the 2 nations without any outcomes. Speaking to CBS, Trump commented that ending the battle was “more difficult” than other wars.
“Frankly, the Russia one, I assumed, would have been on the simpler facet of those I’ve stopped,” he said. “But it seems to be something that’s a little bit more difficult than some of the others.
Since retaking the Oval Office in January, Trump has attempted to position himself as a global peacemaker and repeatedly touted that he has ended several conflicts. Despite this, the president has yet to detail exactly which wars he participated in.
Trump’s approach, as he describes it, is to gather leaders in one room and push them toward an agreement. The president also admitted that the situation between Moscow and Kyiv required additional patience
President Trump, who met with Vladimir Putin last month in Alaska, touted to reporters that he was preparing a direct meeting between Putin and President Volodymyr Zelensky in order to discuss peace. However, recently, the Kremlin has denied that any such deal was reached.
Zelensky has repeatedly expressed a desire and willingness to meet with Putin directly while also urging the U.S. to impose tougher measures to force Russia to return to the negotiation table. On Wednesday, Putin allegedly told reporters that he has not ruled out meeting with Zelensky and added that he would do it if it were done properly.

Putin claimed that if he was ready, Zelensky was invited to come to Moscow to discuss peace. Despite all of this, the president has yet to impose any sanctions on the country despite earlier threats of “extreme” secondary tariffs.
Over the course of his first year back in office, Trump’s administration has paused military aid to Ukraine multiple times and so far imposed only a 25% tariff on India over oil purchases from Moscow. It was reported that Trump’s August 8 deadline for Russia to return to the table had passed without any consequences.
Peace plan in tatters
President Trump’s plan for a trilateral peace deal went up in flames earlier this week when a Kremlin official denied there was a meeting between the three leaders. Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov contradicted statements made by President Trump who said last month that he had begun making “preparations” for a Putin-Zelensky meeting.
“Right now, there’s speak of a trilateral assembly, of a assembly between Putin and Zelensky,” Ushakov said to Russian journalist Pavel Zarubin per The Kyiv Independent. “But particularly, as far as I do know, there was no settlement between Putin and Trump on this,” he added.
According to the official, raising the level of delegations in Ukrainian-Russian negotiations had been discussed during Trump and Putin’s phone call and at their Alaska summit, but otherwise no agreement had been made. “So far, what’s being broadcast in the press isn’t precisely what we agreed on,” he said.
