Trump announces 3-week extension to Israel-Lebanon | Political News

President Donald Trump announced the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon had been prolonged by three weeks in a Truth Social post on Thursday after a number of high-ranking officers met in the Oval Office.

“The Meeting went very well! The United States is going to work with Lebanon in order to help it protect itself from Hezbollah. The Ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon will be extended by THREE WEEKS. I look forward in the near future to hosting the Prime Minister of Israel, Bibi Netanyahu, and the President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun,” President Trump wrote.

According to the president, “Vice President of the United States, JD Vance, Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, and Ambassador to Lebanon, Michel Issa” took half in the assembly.

In an effort to mediate a more sturdy peace settlement, Trump said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun will go to the White House in the upcoming weeks.

“They do have Hezbollah to think about,” he says. “We are going to be working with Lebanon to get things straightened out in that country,” he said. “I think it will be a wonderful thing to get this worked out simultaneously with what we are doing in Iran.”

JD Vance called the three-week extension of the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon a “major, historic moment” while talking from the Oval Office.

The first spherical of negotiations between the 2 nations, which began earlier this month at the White House, are their first in-person discussions since 1993.

“Of course, it wouldn’t have happened without the president’s direct engagement,” Vance added.

More than 2,000 people in Lebanon have been killed since the outset of Israeli strikes, and more than a million have been displaced, officers report.

It comes after Tel-Aviv agreed to a short 10-day ceasefire after initially rejecting claims that Lebanon had been included in the two-week truce between the U.S., Israel, and Iran.

It’s unclear whether or not Israel will honor the ceasefire settlement.

Israeli fire in Lebanon has killed eight people in the last 24 hours, bringing the full quantity of fatalities since March 2 to 2,483, according to Lebanese authorities on Thursday.

According to a assertion from the Cabinet’s Disaster Risk Management Unit, 11 more people had been injured throughout the day prior to this, bringing the full to 7,707.
