The Trump Administration announced it could be reviewing 55 million people who possess US visas and scour their background for any cause to deport them.
The transfer appears to align with President Donald Trump‘s broader goal of cutting range from the nation.
The State Department says visas that permit people to keep in the United States are revoked any time if there are “indicators of overstays, criminal activity, threats to public safety, engaging in any form of terrorist activity, or providing support to a terrorist organization.”
In a written response to the Associated Press, the division said no US visa holder was exempt from “continuous vetting” and that it could look for something that would make them ineligible for the doc.
If officers discover a violation, that visa will be revoked and the holder will be deported. The State Department did not point out how or if it could alert the house owners before deporting them.
“As part of the Trump Administration’s commitment to protect U.S. national security and public safety, since Inauguration Day the State Department has revoked more than twice as many visas, including nearly four times as many student visas, as during the same time period last year,” the division said.
Earlier this week, the division said that since Trump returned to the White House, it has revoked more than 6,000 pupil visas for overstays and violations of local, state and federal law, the overwhelming majority of which have been assault, driving under the affect of alcohol or medication and assist for terrorism.
It said that about 4,000 of those 6,000 have been due to precise infractions of legal guidelines and that roughly 200–300 visas have been revoked for terrorism-related points, including offering assist for designated terrorist organizations or state sponsors of terrorism.
