President Donald Trump shared a quote from the Old Testament, which irked Fox News viewers.

On May 17, Fox News shared a clip on social media from the event “Rededicate 250,” which refers to the Semiquincentennial. The prayer rally was held at The National Mall in Washington, D.C., where a transient video of President Trump, 79, was performed. During the video, Trump read the passage from the seventh chapter of 2 Chronicles.

Viewers grew to become upset as Trump recited, “And turn from their wicked ways.” This comes after the president has closely criticized Pope Leo XIV in a string of heated social media messages and insulting remarks.

Trump quoted the bible: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

The community captioned the post, “The verse is often cited by Christians as a call for spiritual renewal.”

Viewers took to social media to slam Trump’s video, arguing the phrases went hole because of his public feud with Pope Leo, who is against the Iran struggle. One viewer said, “This is offensive and disgusting to my God’s word.”

Another viewer added, “The wicked reciting scripture. You are the one destroying this world with an endless war, spreading death, pain, and destruction all across the planet.”

A 3rd wrote, “Says the guy who insulted and abused the Pope, made an image of himself depicted as Jesus, and had a gold statue that people worship.”

Despite the criticism, the commander-in-chief had a supporter who agreed with him and shared, “President Trump boldly declaring 2 Chronicles 7:14 is exactly what America needs.”

Pope Leo XIV and Marco Rubio

On May 4, Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Pope Leo to mend relations between the U.S. and the Vatican.

At the time, Trump posted a message on Truth Social attacking the pontiff, who didn’t back down from his message of peace and denounced the struggle against the nation in the Middle East.

“Pope Leo is WEAK on Crime, and horrible for Foreign Policy,” the president wrote before including, “I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s OK for Iran to have a Nuclear Weapon.” He repeated that sentiment in feedback to reporters and said, “We don’t like a pope who says it’s OK to have a nuclear weapon.”

In response to Trump’s comments, Leo told reporters he was not a politician and that he did not want to enter into a debate with the president. “The message of the church, my message, the message of the gospel: blessed are the peacemakers. I do not look at my role as being political, a politician.” Leo said and believed the message of the gospel ought to “be abused, as some are doing”.

“I continue to speak strongly against war, seeking to promote peace, dialogue, and multilateralism among states to find solutions to problems,” he said.
