Donald Trump launched a scathing assault on Graham Platner, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Maine, during a signing on Wednesday.
On Wednesday morning, Donald Trump signed the Secure America Act into law. The Republican-backed laws will present funding for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol until 2029.
The reconciliation package deal narrowly cleared the House on Tuesday with Republican help. The roughly $70 billion measure finally moved ahead in the Senate on Friday following weeks of delays.
During his opening remarks, Trump launched an assault on Graham Platner, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Maine, labeling him a “thug.” Speaking to the reporter in the Oval Office, the president acknowledged, “I watch that thug that’s up in Maine. He’s a thug.
“And they’re attempting to make excuses for him,” Trump continued. “I imply, he is worse than any human being that’s ever run for workplace, most likely.
“Nobody has ever had a record like that,” the president went on. “And you’ll have Schumer, he goes crazy over ‘Epstein, Epstein, Epstein.'” Trump then questioned, “Why are people talking about him?”, stories the Irish Star.

“He said, well… We don’t know, but this guy’s got a rap sheet,” Trump acknowledged. “I’ve never seen anything like it. He’s a thug. I know thugs. I had to deal with thugs.”
Reflecting on his real estate background, the president claimed he “built a lot of buildings” and “dealt with the toughest people on earth.”
Trump expressed hope that Senator Eric Schmitt would “take care of him.” Trump concluded, “Great Eric will handle him, I think.”
“Now, Rand would be very interesting with him. Rand would figure it out. It’ll put him away. But this is a thug. He’s a cheap, no-good person,” Trump acknowledged. The president also expressed his full backing for Susan Collins, the Republican Senator from Maine.
When a reporter requested if Collins had the president’s help, Trump responded: “She does because she’s a sane woman,” explaining, “She’s not my best friend at all. These guys are. I get along with, but I have some. But she’s a sane person.”
He continued: “And she’s a person that never missed a vote in many years,” including, “I mean, she’s like had 10,000 votes. She had 10,000 votes. She never missed a vote.”
Trump joked: “Unfortunately, because sometimes she voted against me,” drawing laughter from the gathered Republicans. “You know, look, she’s a sane woman, and she’s a respected person.”
He added: “Maybe a little different ideology than me,” before returning to his earlier criticism, “But this guy is a thug. He’s a fake thug. He’s a phony. I made a lot of money picking out phonies. He’s a real phony. He’s a bad person.”
Securing America Act
According to a White House assertion, the Secure America Act gives “the resources needed to keep our border secure, combat human trafficking, stop the flow of deadly drugs, dismantle criminal cartels, and enforce America’s immigration laws,”
Democrats made repeated makes an attempt to hinder the Secure America Act, highlighting the intensive injury ensuing from Trump’s ICE operations in American cities such as Minneapolis, where two U.S. residents misplaced their lives.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries acknowledged, “Republicans have now come back for more, to give ICE and Donald Trump’s violent mass deportation machine another $70 billion blank check, with no oversight, no accountability, and no guardrails.”

The announcement of extra ICE funding arrives as demonstrations at Delaney Hall, a detention facility in New Jersey, have began to subside. Last month, detainees initiated a starvation strike, submitting a number of handwritten letters calling for improved dwelling requirements and enhanced medical treatment.
Supporters gathered outdoors the ICE heart to back the starvation strikers, ensuing in violent confrontations with Border Patrol brokers and a number of arrests.
