Iranian officers had been reportedly closing in on the American troop concerned in the F-15 Eagle plane crash before navy personnel rescued him, President Donald Trump said on social media.

According to a number of U.S. sources, the F-15E plane was shot down over southwest Iran on Friday, forcing the pilot and the weapons systems officer (WSO) to eject. The second airman, whom Trump called a “highly respected Colonel,” spent more than 24 hours avoiding arrest in the rugged space before rescue.

“We have rescued the seriously wounded, and really brave, F-15 Crew Member/Officer, from deep inside the mountains of Iran. The Iranian Military was looking hard, in big numbers, and getting close. He is a highly respected Colonel,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“This type of raid is seldom attempted because of the danger to ‘man and equipment.’ It just doesn’t happen!” wrote the president. “The second raid came after the first one, where we rescued the pilot in broad daylight, also unusual, spending seven hours over Iran.”

The F-15E was the first American navy plane shot down within Iran since the battle started on Feb. 28, when Israel and the U.S. launched a shock operation that killed Ali Khamenei, the nation’s supreme chief.

Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), a U.S.-based rights group, stories that 1,607 of the three,531 people killed by U.S.-Israeli bombing in Iran thus far in the battle had been civilians, including at least 244 youngsters. Additionally, 13 American service members have misplaced their lives.

On Friday, an A-10 Warthog, another American plane, also went down close to the Strait of Hormuz. The Warthog was offering masking fire for rescue groups wanting for the pilot, according to Fox News.

The F-15 crew member’s recovery coincides with ongoing strikes in the realm.

Authorities in Abu Dhabi said on Sunday morning that they had been combating fires at a petrochemical plant in Borouge that had been introduced on by falling particles from an Iranian missile.
