The U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) revealed in a Monday press release that all leases for large-scale wind projects under construction in the U.S. shall be suspended with rapid impact.
The DOI said that the suspensions stem from national security threats recognized by the Department of Defense in “recently completed classified reports.”
Five leases had been recognized by the DOI for suspension: Vineyard Wind 1, Revolution Wind, CVOW – Commercial, Sunrise Wind, and Empire Wind.
“This pause will give the Department, along with the Department of War and other relevant government agencies, time to work with leaseholders and state partners to assess the possibility of mitigating the national security risks posed by these projects,” the assertion reads.
Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum careworn that defending the American people stays the U.S. authorities’s major duty, studies the Mirror US.
“The prime duty of the United States government is to protect the American people,” Burgum said in the release.
