U.S. President Donald Trump said he had a “very productive” cellphone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin forward of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s go to to Washington.
“I just had a good and very productive phone call with President Putin of Russia prior to my assembly, at 1:00 P.M. today, with President Zelenskyy of Ukraine,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Sunday.
Trump said the high-stakes meeting between himself and Zelenskyy will take place in the main dining room of his residence at Mar-a-Lago in West Palm Beach, Florida, where reporters will be present.
The conversation occurred shortly after Russian missiles and drones rained down on Kyiv ahead of peace talks in Washington.
The meeting will mark the third time that Zelenskyy has visited the U.S. this year amid ongoing ceasefire negotiations. The meetings took place in February, August, and October.
Putin came to Alaska in August for a major meeting with Trump. During the pair’s most recent phone call in October, they agreed to meet in Budapest. However, days later, Trump suddenly called the summit off after anticipating that the meeting would be unproductive.
