President Donald Trump convened a Situation Room meeting on Saturday after Iran announced it was closing the Strait of Hormuz again, just at some point after the Islamic Republic allowed other ships to move through the route.

It seems to be just like the battle may resume in a matter of days unless there’s a breakthrough in peace negotiations, a senior US official told Axios. Despite Trump’s aspirations to put an end to the battle before the ceasefire closes on Tuesday, there’s still no set timetable for negotiations to start this weekend.

JD Vance, Marco Rubio, Pete Hegseth, and Scott Bessent had been among the senior authorities officers who attended today’s meeting.

This comes hours after Trump said during a Saturday morning Oval Office press convention that the U.S. is engaged in “very good conversations” with Iran’s management.

“It’s going very well,” President Trump replied. He didn’t present specifics, but did say that the U.S. is “taking a tough stand” in talks with Iran. “We’re talking to them. They wanted to close up the Strait of Hormuz again, as they’ve been doing for years, and they can’t blackmail us,” Trump said.

He didn’t handle rumors of strikes on ships in the essential waterway or Iranian assertions that the Strait of Hormuz was blocked once more on Saturday.

Trump reiterated his assertions that Iran lacks management, an air pressure, and a navy. He said that strikes against leaders had resulted in “enforced regime change” in the nation.

In retaliation for the U.S’ continued embargo of Iranian ports, Iran reversed its reopening of the important waterway and opened fire on passing ships on Saturday, escalating the confrontation over the strait once more.

The strait is closed until the U.S. blockade is lifted, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard navy said Saturday night time, warning that “no vessel should make any movement from its anchorage in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, and approaching the Strait of Hormuz will be considered as cooperation with the enemy” and be focused.

New assaults on the strait, through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil usually passes, threatened to deepen the global power disaster and push the international locations into renewed battle as the struggle entered its eighth week, the Associated Press reported.

A fragile ceasefire is due to run out by Wednesday. Iran said it had acquired new proposals from the United States, and Pakistani mediators had been working to prepare another spherical of direct negotiations.

Iran’s joint army command earlier said “control of the Strait of Hormuz has returned to its previous state … under strict management and control of the armed forces.”

Revolutionary Guard gunboats opened fire on a tanker and an unknown projectile hit a container vessel, damaging some containers, the British army’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations middle said. India’s overseas ministry said it summoned Iran’s ambassador over the “serious incident” of firing on two India-flagged service provider ships, particularly after Iran earlier let a number of India-bound ships through.

For Iran, the strait’s closure — imposed after the U.S. and Israel launched the struggle on Feb. 28 during talks over Tehran’s nuclear program — is maybe its most highly effective weapon, threatening the world financial system and inflicting political pain on President Trump.

For the United States, the blockade retains up strain and may strangle Iran’s already weakened financial system.

Iran’s new supreme chief, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, issued defiant remarks on Saturday, saying the navy stands “ready to inflict bitter defeats on its enemies.” He has not been seen in public since being elevated to the post following his father’s death in Israel’s opening barrage.
