Zohran Mamdani, the 34-year-old self-described democratic socialist, received the New York City mayoral election and addressed the President Donald Trump, who had backed Mamdani’s opponent, Andrew Cuomo, in his victory speech.
Mamdani issued a direct call to Trump in his victory speech, stating that he would enter City Hall with a firm plan to counter the Trump administration and the politics of division that had elevated Trump to the White House.
As Mamdani was addressing his followers, a few moments after telling the president to flip the amount up, Trump also posted on his Truth Social: “…AND SO IT BEGINS!”
“We will hold bad landlords to account because the Donald Trumps of our city have grown far too comfortable taking advantage of their tenants. We will put an end to the culture of corruption that has allowed billionaires like Trump to evade taxation and exploit tax breaks. We will stand alongside unions and expand labor protections because we know, just as Donald Trump does, that when working people have ironclad rights, the bosses who seek to extort them become very small indeed”, Mamdani said in his victory.
“New York will remain a city of immigrants: a city built by immigrants, powered by immigrants and, as of tonight, led by an immigrant.”
With 91% vote counted, Mamdani was main Cuomo by more than 8 share factors, around midnight ET.
Earlier on Tuesday, Trump wrote on Truth Social: “Any Jewish person that votes for Zohran Mamdani, a proven and self-professed JEW HATER, is a stupid person!!!”
