President Donald Trump acknowledged on Sunday evening, March 29, that he has “no problem” with a Russian oil tanker positioned off Cuba’s coast delivering assist to the nation, which has been severely impacted by a U.S. oil embargo.
“We have a tanker out there. We don’t mind having somebody get a boatload because they need… they have to survive,” Trump remarked to reporters during his flight back to Washington DC.
When requested about a New York Times report suggesting the tanker could be permitted to attain Cuba, Trump responded: “I told them, if a country wants to send some oil into Cuba right now, I have no problem whether it’s Russia or not.”
According to monitoring data, the oil tanker transporting roughly 730,000 barrels of oil was positioned just off the island’s japanese coast on Sunday evening and is anticipated to dock in Matanzas by Tuesday.
Cuban state media journalists also coated the vessel’s anticipated arrival, though Cuban authorities haven’t yet replied to requests for remark.
The ship, Anatoly Kolodkin, faces sanctions from the United States, the European Union, and the United Kingdom in response to the Ukraine battle.
Trump’s administration has taken a more aggressive stance toward its Caribbean neighbor than any current U.S. authorities, basically blocking Cuba from important oil deliveries in an attempt to power regime change.
The embargo has had catastrophic penalties for the civilian population that Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio declare they goal to help, leaving many in dire circumstances. “It doesn’t help him. He loses one boatload of oil, that’s all it is. If he wants to do that, and if other countries want to do it, it doesn’t bother me much,” Trump acknowledged. “It’s not going to have an impact. Cuba’s finished. They have a bad regime. They have very bad and corrupt leadership and whether or not they get a boat of oil, it’s not going to matter.”
He additional added: “I’d prefer letting it in, whether it’s Russia or anybody else because the people need heat and cooling and all of the other things.”
