Trump makes screeching U-turn on TikTok deal in | Political News

President Donald Trump claimed that he and Chinese Leader Xi Jinping have “approved” a TikTok deal after a call Friday morning without offering additional particulars.

“I just completed a very productive call with President Xi of China. We made progress on many very important issues including Trade, Fentanyl, the need to bring the War between Russia and Ukraine to an end, and the approval of the TikTok Deal,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Friday.

Interestingly, President Trump moved to lengthen the delay on the TikTok ban until December 16, contradicting another declare he made this week, saying the 2 nations have created the “framework” of a TikTok deal.

In addition to an alleged TikTok deal, Trump and Xi mentioned the continuing US-China commerce warfare, the fentanyl epidemic and the RussiaUkraine warfare, according to a post on Truth Social. However, the president stopped short of explaining the character of the dialog.

This week marked the third time President Trump has delayed a US TikTok ban.

The Trump administration has not named the US-supported purchaser, but evidence suggests the group is closely concerned with Oracle govt chairman Larry Ellison, who is a Trump supporter and briefly held the title of world’s richest man last week

Back in January, President Trump said he would help Ellison if he determined to buy the Chinese-owned app’s US property.

Despite the bare-bones rationalization of this week’s talks with Beijing, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and other Trump officers have praised Trump for allegedly getting nearer to fixing obvious points like TikTok.

“We were very focused on TikTok and making sure that it was a deal that is fair for the Chinese and completely respects US national security concerns, and that’s the deal we reached,” said US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on Monday. “

And of course, we want to ensure that the Chinese have a fair, invested environment in the United States, but always that US national security comes first.”

A Chinese official appeared to substantiate the Trump administration’s claims in an equally obscure assertion.

Li Chenggang, China’s top commerce negotiator and vice minister of commerce, said the 2 nations engaged in a “candid and in-depth exchange” and finally reached a “basic framework consensus” to stop a TikTok ban in the US.

Together, Washington and Beijing will “resolve TikTok-related issues through cooperation, reducing investment barriers, and promoting relevant economic and trade cooperation,” Li told reporters in Madrid according to Chinese state media.
