Trump makes screeching U-turn on Ukraine war deal | Political News
President Donald Trump has thrown his extremely anticipated assembly with Russian President Vladimir Putin into disarray after issuing a number of conflicting statements.
During an interview on Fox Radio’s Brian Kilmeade at some point before the extremely anticipated assembly, President Trump announced that he totally anticipated Putin to signal a deal by the end of the assembly. “I believe now he’s convinced that he’s going to make a deal. He’s going to make a deal. I think he’s going to. And we’re going to find out — I’m going to know very quickly,” Trump said during his look.
It was reported that Trump had high expectations for the upcoming assembly after the White House seemingly downplayed it as a “listening exercise.” During his look, Trump once again floated the thought of having a trilateral assembly and even proposed three different areas, including Alaska.
The president did, however, issue one key caveat.“If it’s a bad meeting, I’m not calling anybody — I’m going home … But if it’s a good meeting, I’m going to call President Zelensky and the European leaders,” he said.
Trump’s comments run counter to the Kremlin, which said that it would not be signing any documents. According to Dmitry Peskov, a spokesperson for the Kremlin, the government had no plans to sign anything.
According to Peskov, it would be a “mistake” to make any predictions about Friday’s meeting. “President Putin and President Trump are ready to talk and will discuss the most difficult issues,” he said.

When asked if they were interested in issuing a statement, the White House told the Express U.S. that “The President’s remarks are the WH comment!”
In the same interview, President Trump also seemed to backtrack on whether or not there would be joint press conference after the two world leaders met.
“I’m going to have a press conference. I don’t know if it’s going to be a joint,” said Trump. “We haven’t even discussed it. I think it might be nice to have a joint and then separates.”
“So, something like that will happen. Or the meeting doesn’t end well, I’ll just have a press conference and head out. I’ll head back to Washington,” added Trump. This runs counter to a statement put out by press secretary Karoline Leavitt saying that both leaders will hold a conference after they meet.
Trump also revealed that there was even a small chance that the meeting would end in failure. When asked by Kilmeade is there was any chance of failure, Trump said, “Yeah, 25%.”
“This assembly units up the second assembly,” Trump said. “The second assembly goes to be very, very important, because that’s going to be a assembly where they make a deal.”
