US President Donald Trump has announced he has ordered the Pentagon to release files associated to “alien and extraterrestrial life.”

Via a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump gave his purpose for the direction to the army and other companies to make the extraordinary release: “Based on the tremendous interest shown,” a matter of hours after he accused former President Barack Obama of revealing categorised info when he said he believes aliens are real.

Obama said on commentator Brian Tyler Cohen’s podcast: “They’re real, but I haven’t seen them, and they’re not being kept in Area 51. There’s no underground facility unless there’s this enormous conspiracy and they hid it from the president of the United States.”

Obama’s feedback induced such a storm online he was compelled to make clear his remarks from his official Instagram account. “I was trying to stick with the spirit of the speed round, but since it’s gotten attention let me clarify,” he wrote in a caption that accompanied the video clip from the podcast.

“Statistically, the universe is so vast that the odds are good there’s life out there. But the distances between solar systems are so great that the chances we’ve been visited by aliens is low, and I saw no evidence during my presidency that extraterrestrials have made contact with us. Really!”

Area 51, the air pressure facility in southern Nevada, formally established during the Cold War, has spent a long time at the guts of conspiracy theories suggesting it homes extraterrestrial craft and superior alien technology. The CIA did not formally verify Area 51 even existed until 2013 — virtually 60 years after the bottom first turned operational.

In 2019, the positioning turned the main target of an uncommon viral second when a Facebook event jokingly called on people to “storm” the power in search of aliens. Over a million people registered their curiosity online, but the precise turnout barely exceeded 150.

Trump sharply condemned the feedback from Obama on Thursday. He said: “He’s not supposed to be doing that. He made a big mistake.”

Trump responded instantly when requested if he thought aliens are real: “I don’t know if they’re real or not. I don’t have an opinion on it. I never talk about it. A lot of people do. A lot of people believe it.”

On Thursday, Trump’s Truth Social post said: “I will be directing the Secretary of War, and other relevant Departments and Agencies, to begin the process of identifying and releasing government files related to alien and extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), and unidentified flying objects (UFOs), and any and all other information connected to these highly complex, but extremely interesting and important, matters.”
