President Donald Trump claimed that his administration is in a position to control Israel and its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in the latest indication of pressure between the long-standing allies.

When questioned about the current state of his relationship with Netanyahu amid growing tensions, Trump merely responded, “It’s good, but we have to keep him a little bit sane.”

He went on to assert that he can be succesful of stopping Israel from launching an assault on Lebanon, a key sticking level in ongoing negotiations to convey the battle in Iran to a close.

“Yeah, I will be,” he said when requested about having the ability to “control Israel from attacking Lebanon. “They have a lot of respect for me, and they do as I say.”

Trump has found himself at odds with Israel on multiple occasions in recent weeks.

Netanyahu, however, shrugged off reports of a strained dynamic with Trump, comparing the two administrations to members of the same family.
