Trump says you cant have guns sparking panic | Political News
President Donald Trump sparked panic after seemingly telling reporters that residents should not be allowed to have guns.
“You just can’t. You can’t walk in with guns. You can’t do that. But it’s just a very unfortunate incident,” the president continued. Trump’s feedback come following the deadly taking pictures of Alex Pretti, an ICU nurse who was killed by a Border Patrol agent on Saturday.
Unlike other members of his administration who have referred to Pretti as a “domestic terrorist,” Trump has prevented such language. But his statements concerning the legally owned handgun Pretti had before his death have brought about a stir among Republicans and gun rights activists.
Pretti’s death did not produce any clear shifts in U.S. gun insurance policies, even as Trump shuffles the lietenants in charge of his immigration crackdown in Minnesota. But major gamers within Trump’s camp have called for a thorough investigation into Pretti’s death while also criticizing inconsistencies in some Republicans’ Second Amendment stances.
The dynamic may pose a drawback for Republicans as the president heads into midterm elections, when voters are already growing skeptical of his immigration method. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt tried to reassert his model as a gun rights supporter.
“The president supports the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding American citizens, absolutely,” Leavitt told reporters, including, “when you are bearing arms and confronted by law enforcement, you are raising … the risk of force being used against you.”
Trump’s hypocrisy’
Social media customers called the president’s current feedback hypocritical after he beforehand supported Kyle Rittenhouse, who stood trial for taking pictures three people, two fatally, at a protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in August 2020.
“Yet he supported Rittenhouse?” requested one individual. “How f—ing rich…” At the time of the case, Trump, who was serving as president in his first time period, called Rittenhouse a “really nice young man.”
Rittenhouse’s attorneys argued that he had acted in self-defense after the lads grabbed his gun. He was acquitted in November 2021 and now operates a gun rights YouTube channel.
Rittenhouse has been introduced back into the highlight following the death of Pretti. Following the Trump administration’s admonishment of Pretti being armed with his handgun at the time of his death, Rittenhouse urged gun house owners to “carry everywhere.”
“It is your right,” he wrote on X, including the hashtag, “#ShallNotBeInfringed.”
