Donald Trump has induced outrage in an “unbelievable” TV second. The US president invited the Artemis II astronauts to the Oval Office on Wednesday.
He honoured the NASA crew that travelled to the moon for the first time since the Nixon administration as he said: “We’re very proud of these people. Unbelievable courage.” But, in true Trump fashion, he rapidly turned himself into the subject of dialogue as he continued: “A lot of other things too, by the way, to get in there you have to be very smart, have to do a lot of things physically good, so I would have no trouble making it. I’m physically very, very good. We will have to try it sometime.” He then turned to NASA administrator Jared Isaacman and requested: “Is a president allowed to go up in one of these missions?” He responded: “We can get working on that, Mr President.”
The clip, which was broadcast on several news outlets, has since been doing the rounds on social media, sparking fury among viewers.
Reposting it to X/Twitter, one person captioned it: “Not AI. Not SNL. Meeting the Artemis II astronauts, Trump claimed he’s bodily ‘very, excellent’ and match to be an astronaut: ‘I might have had no bother making it. I’m bodily very, excellent.’ How is this real life?”
Someone else replied: “This is just on the border of being utterly unbelievable,” as one more added: “That’s so disrespectful to the astronauts who skilled arduous for years. STFU Trump.”
Another person complained: “Why does actually every scenario, every dialog, without fail, have to come back around to be about HIM one way or the other? It’s narcissism on another stage.”
However, others thought it was a good idea. One joked: “I’m at a loss of phrases. If Trump desires to go to space – ship him off. It could also be a good factor for the world.”

Artemis 2 launched on April 1 and returned to Earth on April 10. The mission despatched Christina Koch, Victor Glover, Reid Wiseman and Jeremy Hansen on an epic journey around the moon and back.
