President Donald Trump not too long ago issued a scathing assertion against United Kingdom’s Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, for his get together’s appointment of U.S. Ambassador Peter Mandelson.

A former senior official at the UK’s Foreign Office, Oliver Robbins, testified that he was under “constant pressure” to guarantee Mandelson was appointed as soon as doable. Robbins was fired by Starmer last week after stories of him clearing the trail for the ambassador emerged.
Mandelson was appointed in January 2025 and sacked in September after new particulars emerged of his former close friendship to Epstein. Starmer apologized to the victims of Epstein and admitted he knew of Mandelson’s ties to the convicted intercourse offender, but added that the ambassador had “lied repeatedly” about the extent of those ties.
The prime minister’s Chief of Staff, Morgan McSweeney, resigned earlier this week and took the blame for appointing Mandelson. “I advised the Prime Minister to make that appointment and I take full responsibility for that advice,” McSweeney said in a assertion.
Mandelson is now going through a police investigation over allegations he shared delicate data with Epstein 20 years in the past while serving as a Cabinet minister.

Trump’s statements come during a time when he has publicly confirmed his disappointment with the prime minister for his unwillingness to get entangled in the U.S. battle in Iran.
While Trump has criticized a number of NATO members for not getting concerned, his criticism has been targeted particularly on Starmer. Addressing a White House cupboard assembly, Trump said that the UK’s plane carriers are “toys compared to what we have.” He also told the UK “don’t bother” sending the carriers as “we don’t need it.”
