Trump weighs limited military strikes on Iran or | Political News

President Donald Trump is reportedly weighing whether or not to restart “limited military strikes” against Iran after peace talks between the U.S. and Iran failed in Pakistan — or probably a more devastating, second option.

The U.S. delegation — Vice President JD Vance, Jared Kushner, and particular envoy Steve Witkoff — left Islamabad on Sunday without reaching a deal with Iranian leaders to end the conflict.

On Sunday, Trump announced a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, warning that military vessels would face a “forceful response.” After peace talks between U.S. and Iran failed to attain a decision, the president announced in a Truth Social post that “any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave” the waterway shall be blocked.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday night that, “President Trump and his advisers are looking at resuming limited military strikes in Iran in addition to the U.S. blockade of the Strait of Hormuz as a way to break a stalemate in peace talks, according to officials and people familiar with the situation.”

The outlet reported that, “Trump could also resume a full-fledged bombing campaign, though officials said that was less likely given the prospect of further destabilizing the region and the president’s aversion to prolonged military conflicts.”

After the talks failed, Vance said the Trump administration was searching for an “affirmative commitment” that Iran wouldn’t pursue nuclear weapons, but the Iranians shot it down.

The White House declined to talk about the president’s particular choices.

“The President has already ordered a naval blockade on the Strait of Hormuz, ending the Iranian extortion, and wisely keeps all additional options on the table,” White House spokeswoman Olivia Wales told The Journal. “Anyone who is telling The Wall Street Journal that they know what President Trump will do next is purely speculating.”

After talks in Pakistan failed, the president asserted that Iran desires to return to the negotiating desk, and an official close to the negotiating group told The Journal that an offer stays on the desk.

A senior Iranian delegation at the talks said it’s the starting of a course of.

“The Islamabad Talks laid the foundation for a diplomatic process that, if trust and will are strengthened, can create a sustainable framework for the interests of all parties,” Reza Amiri Moghadam wrote on social media.
