Trump will release video on 2nd boat strike and | Political News
Donald Trump said he would release “whatever” footage the Department of Defense has of a second strike on an alleged drug boat from September.
On Sept. 2, the Pentagon ordered a strike on a suspected drug boat in the Caribbean Sea, which they deemed to be full of narco-terrorists. However, after the first strike failed to kill all of the occupants, a second strike was ordered.
While talking to reporters at the White House, Trump said the administration would release “whatever they have” so the American people can see what occurred. “I don’t know what they have, but whatever they have, we’d certainly release. No problem,” said Trump.
“You know, every boat we knock out, we save 25,000 American lives,” the president continued. “And if you look at our numbers, the drugs coming in through sea are down 91%.”
As he continued, Trump added that the Pentagon would soon order land strikes.
“We’re gonna start very soon on land, and I’m sure you’re thrilled to hear that,” said the president.
The U.S. has carried out more than 20 strikes on suspected drug boats, allegedly carrying medication from Venezuela. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth was just lately grilled about the second strike.
DON’T MISS…
Hegseth defended the follow-up strike, blaming it on the “fog of war” that obscured his skill to spot survivors from the first strike.
“I didn’t personally see survivors,” Hegseth told reporters during a Cabinet assembly on Tuesday. “The thing was on fire. It was exploded in fire and smoke. You can’t see it.”
A growing bipartisan group of lawmakers has launched inquiries into the strikes, which some said may represent a struggle crime. However, Trump and the White House have defended Hegseth’s actions.
Hegseth said he noticed the first strike live before transferring on to other conferences and did not see any survivors. He told the media that he did not see the second strike, but realized about it later.
However, he believed the second strike was the best choice, calling it a rigorous and deliberative course of to establish the alleged drug-carrying boats.
But large parts of Congress and the American public have not seen any vital outcomes from the strikes. Some lawmakers have even questioned whether or not the Pentagon’s claims are correct.
“Adm. Bradley made the correct decision to ultimately sink the boat and eliminate the threat,” said Hegseth. “We have his back.”
When requested about the timing of the second strike, Trump reiterated that Hegseth wasn’t conscious of it. “Pete has done an amazing job,” he said. “You could probably better answer the question.”
