President Donald Trump continued to slam Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, additional straining ties between the United States and Italy.

On June 22, Fox News reshared President Trump‘s latest post from Truth Social. Trump, 80, and Meloni, 49, have been at odds since the G7 Summit in Évian-les-Bains, France. After the summit assembly ended on June 17, the president continued to drive a wedge, bringing up Italy’s reported lack of involvement during the continued struggle between the U.S. and Iran. He claimed Meloni doesn’t take into account Iran as a “serious threat.”

Trump claimed Italy wouldn’t defend the U.S. against Iran’s nuclear weapons. This got here after the president threatened to update his lawsuit against the New York Times after the newspaper claimed his struggle against Iran achieved little or no.

“After spending Trillions of Dollars on NATO, Italy, and its Prime Minister, wouldn’t even think of becoming involved with the Islamic Republic of Iran and their very serious Nuclear Threat,” Trump wrote.

“For decades, we defend them, but when tested, they are not there to defend us, and the rest of the World. Not good!” he closed.

Trump took to his Truth Social platform on June 20 to closely criticize Meloni for failing to help his stance against Iran.

He began off, saying, “Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni asked, over and over, for a picture with me during the G-7 meeting in France,” before mocking her.

“She is doing poorly in Italy with her level of popularity, possibly because she turned down the United States of America, a Country that truly loves and protects Italy, when it came to denying Iran from obtaining or developing a Nuclear Weapon (But so did NATO, for that matter!),” Trump ranted.

“She wouldn’t even let us use Italy’s landing strips or runways, a great logistical inconvenience,” he added before persevering with, “And this despite the fact the U.S. contributes hundreds of Billions of Dollars a year to protect Italy, and other ‘so-called’ NATO Allies.

“Now, after the United States defeated Iran militarily, she desires to be associates again in order to get her ‘numbers up.’ No thanks!” he closed.

Trump had initially claimed in an interview with Italian media outlet La7 that Meloni had “begged” him for a photograph during the Evian-les-Bains summit.

“She’s most likely joyful I talked to her. I did not have to speak to her,” he told the outlet. “She begged me to take a image with her. She wished a image with me so badly.”

Trump added, “I would not have taken it, but I felt sorry for her.”

Meloni issued a statement saying she was “astonished” and calling the account “utterly made up.”

Their degradation of their relationship may come as a shock to some, with the pair thought to once share a close bond. Trump previously shocked the world stage as he shared his adoration for Meloni at a Gaza peace summit last year. He called the Italian PM “stunning” after showing to strike up a better bond with her than that of his relationships with the other European leaders.
