The high-spirited and charismatic Clark also acknowledged that he thrives on crowd power. “I love the energy,” Clark said. “I love making a big putt and feeling that or hitting a good shot and getting the claps. So it was unfortunate it got a little flat.

“Also, because of that, sometimes it made it powerful to keep actually centered because it appeared like everybody was leaving, and it was just like the event was over, and I had to keep myself actually centered and in the current. I did not do my best job; I made form of two poor bogeys coming in. Hopefully there’s people there tomorrow and it is a great environment.”

Clark and Scheffler were paired together in the final grouping for the tournament, with the final round coinciding with Scheffler’s birthday. Clark spoke his victory into existence with his comments before the round began.

“I might say I’m undoubtedly a lot more assured and imagine I can do it,” Clark stated. “I’d say in ’23 there was still doubts. Not essentially doubts, but I hadn’t completed it, so there was a lot of unknown. Now that I’ve completed it, I do know I can do it, and I can do it again.”
