UK forces rush to support Trump despite backlash | Political News

The U.Ok. has shown firm support to the U.S. as it seized a Russian-flagged oil tanker, despite pointed feedback made by Trump months back.

The U.Ok. armed forces offered enabling support for the American seizure of a Russian-flagged oil tanker, stopped in the North Atlantic by the U.S. Coast Guard on Wednesday. The transfer got here amid efforts to crack down on sanctioned ships. The Bella-1 beforehand maneuvered through the U.S. Navy blockade of sanctioned tankers leaving port in Venezuela.

The U.Ok. protection ministry said it helped with the seizure “following a U.S. request for assistance.”

The Ministry of Defence said the U.Ok. deployed Royal Air Force surveillance plane and Royal Navy support ship RFA Tideforce.

The U.Ok.’s willingness to help has raised some questions about its relationship with the U.S. Last May, Trump insulted the United Kingdom and made some pointed feedback about their longstanding relationship.

He claimed on Truth Social that the United States did “far more” than its allies to secure victory in World War II.

“Many of our allies and friends are celebrating May 8th as Victory Day, but we did more than any other Country, by far, in producing a victorious result on World War II,” Trump wrote in a Friday morning post, as reported by Newsweek.

“I am hereby renaming May 8th as Victory Day for World War II and November 11th as Victory Day for World War I,” Trump posted. “We won both Wars, nobody was close to us in terms of strength, bravery, or military brilliance… We are going to start celebrating our victories again!”

Leading British historian Richard Overy, FRHistS FBA, called Trump’s claims “an extraordinary distortion of history.”

“The British, French, and Italians defeated the Central Powers, with some U.S. help in the last months,” he added. “This is history that Trump really ought to read. His claim as it stands is nonsense.”

Prime Minister Keir Starmer doesn’t appear to be holding any laborious emotions toward Trump. The two had a telephone call on Thursday, during which they reportedly mentioned Euro-Atlantic security and the need to deter an more and more aggressive Russia in the Arctic area, according to a spokesperson.
