The U.S. Secretary of Defense has alleged that Iran tried to assassinate Donald Trump.
During a Wednesday media briefing at The Pentagon, Pete Hegseth announced that U.S. forces hunted down and killed the commander of an Iranian unit accountable for the assassination attempt on the U.S. President.
He acknowledged: “Also yesterday, the leader of the unit who attempted to assassinate President Trump has been hunted down and killed,” stories Daily Express UK.
“Iran tried to kill President Trump. And President Trump got the last laugh.”
Hegseth additional declared that “America is winning” its army marketing campaign against Iran, working in tandem with Israel.

Just days following the joint strikes that initiated Operation Epic Fury, the Secretary of Defense proclaimed, “We have only just begun” the trouble to remove Iran’s army capabilities.
He remarked: “We are only four days into this, metrics are shifting, dust is settling and more forces are arriving.”
“It’s very early and, as President Trump has said, we will take all the time we need to make sure that we succeed… They are toast and they know it, or at least soon enough they will know it.”
“We have only just begun to hunt, dismantle, demoralise, destroy and defeat their capabilities.”
“Starting last night and to be completed in a few days in under a week, the two most powerful air forces in the world will have complete control of Iranian skies. Uncontested airspace.”
Hegseth’s assertion represents the most latest in a string of allegations that Iran has been making an attempt to remove Trump.
Commander of an Iranian unit ordered a hit on Trump
Earlier this week, while discussing the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei with reporters, the US President claimed Iran had tried to assassinate him on two events.
Speaking to ABC News, he acknowledged: “I got him before he got me. They tried twice. Well I got him first.”
In 2024, Trump’s marketing campaign revealed he had acquired intelligence briefings from U.S. officers concerning threats to his life originating from Iran. These have been described as “real and specific threats from Iran to assassinate him in an effort to destabilise and sow chaos in the United States.”
Whilst campaigning for the presidency at that time, he acknowledged there have been “big threats on my life by Iran,” noting, “Moves were already made by Iran that didn’t work out, but they will try again.”
He characterised such actions as a “death wish by the attacker” and expressed gratitude to Congress for authorizing further funding for the Secret Service.
