US questions the point of NATO after Europe | Political News

After receiving a largely stony response from NATO allied international locations relating to the Iran warfare, the Trump administration is said to be contemplating its NATO membership.

When interviewed on Fox News by Sean Hannity, Rubio announced he had been “one of the strongest defenders” of NATO, but that membership in the transatlantic alliance would need to be “reexamined” after the warfare in Iran.

“If now we have reached a point where the NATO alliance means we can’t use those bases to defend America’s interests, then NATO is a one way street,” he said, including, “If NATO is simply about us having troops in Europe to defend Europe, but when we need them to allow us to use their military bases, their answer is no – then why are we in NATO?”

According to Rubio, the choice might be left up to President Trump, who has been a vocal critic of the alliance for a long time.

“So I think there’s no doubt, unfortunately, after this conflict is concluded, we are going to have to reexamine that relationship,” the Secretary said.

The Trump administration’s angle toward NATO amid the Iran warfare has not gone unnoticed.

American journalist Brian Allen reacted to Rubio’s feedback, writing on X, “NATO was founded in 1949. Article 5 — collective defense — was invoked once in history, after September 11th.Every NATO ally showed up for America.”

He added, “America started a war without consulting NATO. Without congressional authorization. Without allied support. On a feeling. Now Rubio is questioning the alliance because allies won’t fight America’s unilateral war.”

Meanwhile, President Trump said during a cupboard assembly last week that the warfare against the Iranian regime was a loyalty “test” for Europe.

“They weren’t there. So if there’s ever a big one, I don’t think they’re going to be there,” he told reporters.

The president also slammed the allies in Europe for not helping in reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and implied that the accountability for making certain the protected passage of ships in the waterway might soon be Europe’s alone.

In a current Truth Social post, he wrote, “You’ll have to start learning how to fight for yourself, the U.S.A. won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us. Iran has been, essentially, decimated. The hard part is done. Go get your own oil!”
