View hosts dodge FCC controversy after Disney | TV Shows
The View hosts selected silence as they deal with legal drama behind the scenes.
On the Monday, May 11 episode of the speak show, Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro all took their rightful locations at the desk to talk about the whole lot from the Broadway return of Poof to a pastor’s protection of a gold Trump statue on his golf course.
Although the women’ expressed many daring opinions within the hour phase, none of them had to do with the show’s ongoing legal drama involving ABC community dad or mum company, Disney (which owns ABC), and the Federal Communications Commission.
The Monday episode was the first live taping since Disney filed a petition for declaratory ruling. They are pushing back after FCC chairman Brendan Carr confirmed that the commission can be “taking a look at” the show before “an enforcement action underway.”
He claimed The View violated a long-standing “equal time” rule after an interview with Texas senate candidate James Talarico. The standard mandates broadcasters provide equal time on air to all candidates seeking the same office in a given election race. Nevertheless, talk shows have often been granted exceptions to the rule.
ABC News President Almin Karamehmedovic encouraged executive producer Brian Teta and the ladies to include more celebrity-focused episodes.
According to a source that spoke to The Daily Beast, Karamehmedovic “highlighted episodes with celebrity guests that he said were highly rated” and suggested the workforce to “lean into such coverage moving forward.”
At the time, the women reportedly pushed back on the community’s “silly” request. One source recalled the hosts telling the bosses, “This is what our audience wants. Isn’t it gonna look kind of bad if we’re all of a sudden not talking about politics?”
Allegedly, the hosts got here to the conclusion “they were just going to keep doing their thing.”
