We used to assume Justin Jefferson was quarterback-proof. After all, he posted large numbers with Sam Darnold, helped make Kirk Cousins a bona fide star QB after just an OK stint with Washington. He had even performed fairly nicely with backup Nick Mullens over a short period.
No QB may keep Jefferson down. Certainly not under coach Kevin O’Connell’s tutelage.
Turns out, perhaps Jefferson was just QB-resistant, not QB-proof, because this season hasn’t labored out as anticipated. It hasn’t been like any season before. And the issue didn’t appear to be Jefferson, the issue appeared to be particularly the QBs.
Whether it was J.J. McCarthy or Carson Wentz or — gulp — Max Brosmer, Jefferson has suffered his worst professional season, by far.
