The White House addressed Dr. Mehmet Oz’s interview in which he said the president believes diet soda kills cancer cells.

“Your dad argues that diet soda is good for him because it kills grass – if poured on grass – so, therefore, it must kill cancer cells inside the body,” Oz said on Triggered with Don Jr., the podcast hosted by the president’s eldest son.

When questioned if the president certainly believes in this, Leavitt said this was a joke that she has heard him inform before.

“As we all know, the president has a very good sense of humor. I have heard him tell this joke before,” the White House Press Secretary said.

Leavitt held a press convention on Wednesday to have a good time President Trump’s tax insurance policies on Tax Day.

During the interview, Oz, a cardiothoracic surgeon and tv persona who now leads the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, described a latest second aboard Air Force One.

“You know, we were on Air Force One the other day, and I walk in there because he wants to talk about something, and he’s got an orange soft drink on his desk. He’s got a Fanta on the desk,” Oz said. “And I say, ‘Are you kidding me?’ So he starts to, like, sheepishly grin. He says, ‘You know, this stuff’s good for me – it kills cancer cells.’”

The president’s son responded by suggesting that there’s one thing to his father’s habits.

“But then maybe he’s on to something. Because I will say this: I know a lot of guys pushing 80, not a lot have his level of energy, recall, stamina,” Don Jr. said.

Trump has defended his preference for sweet drinks and fast food as part of his approach to staying healthy.

“He doesn’t want to get sick, so he eats junk food, but it’s food made in large, reputable chains because they have quality control,” Oz said on the podcast.

Most diet sodas include a low-calorie synthetic sweetener that is about 200 instances as candy as sugar and sweetened with aspartame, which the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has categorized as “possibly carcinogenic to humans” (group 2B).

The classification is based on restricted evidence suggesting a potential hyperlink to cancer, notably liver cancer, in people, as nicely as restricted findings from animal research.
