Yale University hosted a controversial Twitch streamer who has confronted backlash for earlier feedback on 9/11 and Hamas.
Hasan Piker, talking at the Yale Political Union, warned that the “American Empire is dying” and that it must be eliminated or else the end of America will come “in a much more violent way.”
“Empires never die quietly,” Piker cautioned. “And we must end the American empire regardless. But we must manage the retreat of a superpower from the world stage. This is a challenge for our time, actually this is the challenge for our time. Because if we do not do this, the American empire will end in a much more violent way.”
The left-wing livestreamer took goal at Immigration and Customs Enfrocement, the U.S. entanglement with Isreal and capitalism. “I don’t know how else to put it, the American empire is fading fast, regardless of what we resolve here today,” Piker said. “The American empire is going to inevitably fall.”
His go to drew sharp critisism from conservative voices in the lead up and aftermath of the event held on Tuesday.
“Hasan Piker hates America, glorifies terrorism and has called for me and others to be murdered,” the senator wrote. “He should not be given ANY TYPE of platform, let alone a COLLEGE CAMPUS that receives federal funding.”
Piker during a livestream last 12 months, steered Scott, who spoke at a Yale Political Union debate in October, needs to be killed if people cared about healthcare fraud.
“I’m especially sad that Sen. Rick Scott couldn’t make it,” Piker said in his opening speech. “I’m sure he had many opinions on whether or not we should end the U.S. empire and the global capitalist system.”
Yale Political Union President Mór Szepesi said Tuesday’s debate had the most excitement he had seen for a Yale Political Union guest.
“Earlier this semester, when we hosted New York mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa, I stood on this very stage at this very podium and proclaimed that I could say without a shred of a doubt that I have never seen this level of excitement for a guest of the Yale Political Union,” Szepesi said as he launched the streamer. “That distinction was perhaps short-lived.”
Piker’s remarks traced U.S. historical past from the Spanish-American War, World War II and the Cold War, describing them as America’s “imperial roots.”
“What was the point of defeating the Nazis if we went on to dominate so much of the globe as violently as we have?” he requested the viewers.
