Anthony Volpe will see time at second base and shortstop in the minor leagues, Aaron Boone told Jomboy Media on Tuesday.
It’s a notable shift since Volpe has not performed second base in the majors and the group didn’t have him take reps at the place earlier this 12 months when he was in the minors.
Volpe was demoted to Triple-A alongside pitcher Angel Chivilli and outfielder Jasson Dominguez following Monday evening’s 13-7 loss to the Cardinals.

Highly-touted shortstop prospect George Lombard Jr. has been called up to substitute Volpe.
The choice to play Volpe at a number of positions comes after confusion surrounding his need to play other spots in the sphere if needed.
Last month, Yankees broadcaster Michael Kay claimed that Volpe refused to take a minor league project to play second base, saying he would only play shortstop.
Volpe strongly rejected the rumor before Kay walked it back the next day.
The former first-round decide manned second base in just two video games in the minors, both in 2021.
In 56 video games this season, Volpe is batting .240 with one home run and a .646 OPS.
His protection has often been a dialog subject during his period with the Yankees, and he now has three more errors (56) than home runs (53) since first becoming a member of the big-league membership in 2023.
