There are nights when you need the Player of the Year to do Player of the Year issues. St. John’s needed Zuby Ejiofor to do Player of the Year issues Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden. It was senior night, always an unpredictable emotional barometer (even in a time in faculty basketball when seniors at big-time packages are rarer than noticed owls).
The crowd, 14,319 strong, was subdued, nearly funereal. The Johnnies matched that vitality, or lack thereof, wanting flatter than I-80 when you cruise through Utah’s Bonneville Salt Flats (look it up, children!) for most of the first three quarters of the sport.
