30 California District Attorneys Are a Hard NO on | Political News
In September, California’s former Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger got here out against current Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom’s redistricting rip-off recognized as Proposition 50. Prop. 50 would override the duly elected impartial Redistricting Commission maps and exchange them with gerrymandered maps that favor Democrats by lumping in rural counties with city facilities.
On Thursday, 37 of the 58 County Sheriffs made their voices heard with a arduous “NO” to this scheme and they had been rapidly joined by 30 elected metropolis and county district attorneys. In a joint letter which included DAs from Alpine, El Dorado, Lassen, Sierra, San Luis Obispo, Placer, and Yolo counties, the DAs expressed, “In an era marked by eroding ethics and integrity—where political assassination is excused and violent rhetoric against opponents and their families is dismissed as a mere “mistake”—we must firmly say no.”
Sheriffs across California see Prop 50 for what it’s, a corrupt energy grab.
It silences voters and rigs elections to defend politicians.

CA Sec. of State Owns Up to Big Mistake on Newsom’s Gerrymandering Special Election Ballots
30 District Attorneys from around the state of California, including those from east California and the Tahoe space, have come together to signal a letter voicing their opposition to a proposed statewide redistricting effort.
Proposition 50 would redraw the Congressional maps in the state of California until 2030. The effort to redistrict started as a response to new Congressional maps being drawn up in the state of Texas.
In their letter, the DAs say Prop 50 seeks to dismantle the voter-approved California Citizens Redistricting Commission and reinstate what they are saying is partisan gerrymandering.
“Proposition 50 undermines democracy by prioritizing politicians’ power instead of preserving voter-approved reforms that improve community representation. The independent commission has fairly redrawn electoral districts after the last two censuses. However, Proposition 50 would allow the State Legislature to secretly craft new congressional maps before the next census—dividing communities and silencing voters. This erodes trust in government and ignores the clear mandate for independent redistricting,” the DAs said in their letter.
Thanks to the California legislature cramming through mail-in ballots, voting on this November 4 poll initiative began this week, and the execution has been as disjointed and chaotic as the cobbled together measure. As my colleague Becky Noble reported:
With a little over a month to go before the election, mail-in ballots have already been despatched to hundreds of thousands of voters. However, on Tuesday, California Secretary of State Shirley Weber admitted to a big mistake relating to those hundreds of thousands of mail-in ballots that have gone out. A labeling error in the Voter Information Guide mistakenly labeled the proposed new congressional district 27 as district 22.
Oops.
Incorrect district names, and incomplete or lacking abstract language. This is what $300 million of taxpayer {dollars} spent on a Newsom marketing campaign will get you.
Our Prop 50 voter guides arrived this week and the maps are inaccurate. But we can’t get any corrections or even a delay while they type it out. This is supposedly the most important vote in America BECAUSE TRUMP and they can not even trouble to get the voter guides proper. pic.twitter.com/dZEtrlTSqA

That $300 million that may have been utilized to fund Prop. 36, a measure which Californians voted for overwhelmingly, and that would restore felony penalties and public security. The fact that Newsom is losing money on this boondoggle fairly than funding Prop. 36 was also not misplaced on the DAs.
The prosecutors also criticized the timing and value of the particular election, arguing that sources can be better allotted to initiatives like Proposition 36, which focuses on increasing drug treatment packages. They contend that Prop 50’s push for new maps is a response to redistricting strikes in Republican-led states like Texas, but it comes at the expense of California’s dedication to nonpartisan redistricting.
The elected officers who are so staunchly defending the chance to vote on Prop 50 did every little thing they might to keep Prop 36 off the poll. And after it handed with 70% these same electeds have refused to correctly fund it. Welcome to #California

As if Newsom hadn’t absolutely given a center finger to California voters, particularly those who misplaced every little thing in the Palisades and Eaton Fires, on October 3, he vetoed a invoice that would have raised the wage of California firefighters, claiming it was “too costly.” Prop. 50 is Newsom’s concept of money effectively spent — because the money is never his own.

While Newsom seems to be holding all the playing cards in phrases of money, public sentiment seems to show that he’s pissing off all the improper people. Now if we may only get those people to solid ballots. As with the 2021 recall, Republican and no get together desire voting has so far been sparse.
Ladies and gents, if you need Prop 50 to fail, as it ought to, please get your ballots returned. pic.twitter.com/A7WLtzPklr

Newsom is utilizing confusion and demoralization to his benefit. We cannot let him win.
A pleasant 9-minute explainer of why Prop 50 must be defeated just dropped.
