Netflix viewers question Brian Laundrie family | TV Shows
Those who were captivated by the Gabby Petito murder case in 2021 are still left without answers years later about her former fiance Brian Laundrie’s family, and how much they knew about his role in her death before his own suicide.
The case has been catapulted back into the spotlight following the new Netflix documentary, American Murder: Gabby Petito, which led fans to react as they relived the story, which captivated the entire country.
The film has since revealed some of Petito’s potential thoughts before her fateful road trip with her fiance and has cast new light on Laundrie’s parents, who reached a settlement in a wrongful death lawsuit from Petito’s parents after the fact.
Now, fans have grown more curious about what happened to the Laundrie family, who mostly remained silent during the nationwide search first for Petito, and then, after her body was discovered, Laundrie.
However, more questions may remain, as the Laundrie family refused to be a part of the documentary.
“We did reach out to his family. It’s hard to open up about this [topic] for that side of the family. So we made best efforts to reach out to them,” one of the filmmakers, Julia Willoughby Nason, told Us Weekly.
“We reached out to the family, to their lawyer and to Brian’s sister,” fellow filmmaker Michael Gasparro added. “But we respected the fact that they didn’t want to participate and that’s it.”
Laundrie’s parents, Roberta and Christopher, have made no public comments since the case closed, and also refused to share any comments while the search went on for both Gabby and Brian.
Despite their lack of comment, interactions, particularly with Roberta, where she told her son she would help him “bury a body” if it came down to it, were sensationalized.
Nearly one month later, after her cause of death was determined to be by strangulation, Laundrie’s own remains were found at Myakkahatchee Creek Park in Florida, along with a gun and a notebook with hand-written confession inside.
Laundrie was confirmed to have died by suicide from a gunshot wound to the head.
American Murder: Gabby Petito is now streaming on Netflix.
