Gary Sohmers, the Antiques Roadshow expert renowned for his ponytail and love of Hawaiian shirts, has stunned fans by revealing the most expensive item he’s ever appraised.

A frequent star on the long-running PBS show, Sohmers, who appraised his first item on the series in 1997, gave an insight into his experience that now spans over 13 seasons.

He divulged this fascinating piece of trivia on Reddit during an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session, engaging with inquisitive fans about his tenure on the show.

A Reddit user prompted a revelation: “What is the most valuable item you have ever appraised?” Sohmers responded, “On TV, I appraised a collection of Charles Schulz art (Peanuts) for $450,000, but privately, I have appraised collections in the millions.”

It was back in 2009 when Sohmers encountered the impressive Peanuts compilation as Antiques Roadshow made its way to Phoenix, Arizona.

After thoroughly examining her collection, she estimated its worth at $450,000.”

It’s believed that the proud collector chose not to part with her impressive array, instead opting to expand it further with her son during their leisure time.

The highest appraised item ever on Antiques Roadshow as a whole was a 1914 Patek Philippe pocket watch, which was valued at a whopping $2 million to $3 million.

According to Wealth Gang, it was initially appraised at $250,000 in 2004, and its value increased significantly over time due to its exceptional craftsmanship and condition.

Antiques Roadshow airs on PBS in the US and BBC One in the UK.
