Putin ‘running scared’ as Zelensky says he will | Political News

President Zelensky acknowledged that he will only meet with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin in Istanbul, Turkey, on Thursday if the talks are held instantly between the 2 of them, according to a Ukrainian presidential adviser.

“Only Putin can decide whether the war continues or ends. That’s indisputable,” Mykhailo Podolyak advised Russian journalists.

“We understand how power is structured in Russia,” he added.

“It’s clear that even people with formal ministerial status – or even someone like Mishustin – are unlikely to be authorised to make key decisions,” he mentioned, referring to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

Podolyak made it clear that Zelensky is only in talking instantly with Putin, not with anybody on his crew.

Podolyak added that Kyiv would make amendments to the law made in 2022, after Russia killed and tortured residents in Ukraine, that bans direct talks with Putin, if he agrees to negotiate in particular person.

Andriy Yermak, Zelensky’s chief of employees, commented on the deliberate talks between Russia and Ukraine later this week, saying : “If Vladimir Putin refuses to come to Turkey, it will be the final signal that Russia does not want to end this war, that Russia is not willing and not ready for any negotiations.”

However, Kaja Kallas, the Vice-President of the European Commission, mentioned she doesn’t suppose Putin would “dare” meet with Zelensky as Russia has been enjoying “games” for two months.

“I think it’s a good move if they sit down … but I don’t think he dares, Putin,” she mentioned at a convention in Copenhagen.

“It has been over two months since Ukraine agreed to an unconditional ceasefire. Russia is clearly playing games, trying to find time, hoping that time is on their side. We haven’t seen any good efforts or good signs from their side.”

On Monday, President Trump mentioned that he is optimistic that both the leaders will attend the assembly on Thursday in Turkey.

“I believe we may even see a good consequence from Thursday’s assembly in Turkey between Russia and Ukraine,” Trump mentioned yesterday.

“I believe both leaders are going to be there. I even thought about flying over — I’m not sure where I’ll be on Thursday, I have so many meetings,” Trump added.

Trump said he “strongly pushed” for the meeting to happen.

“Thursday’s assembly between Russia and Ukraine could be very important. I strongly pushed for it to occur. I believe good issues can come from it,” the U.S. president mentioned.
