DHS ends TSA program claiming it targeted | Political News

The Trump administration has ended a counterterrorism program used to surveil passengers at airports, claiming it was used to “target political opponents” under the “guise of national security.”

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem introduced the termination of the TSA’s “Quiet Skies Program” on Thursday, saying it “failed to stop a single terrorist attack while costing US taxpayers $200 million a year.”

Noem stated the DHS and TSA had uncovered “documents and timelines” that confirmed the program was used to “benefit political allies of the Biden Administration.”

“It is clear that the Quiet Skies program was used as a political rolodex of the Biden Administration—weaponized against its political foes and exploited to benefit their well-heeled friends,” Noem stated.

“I am calling for a Congressional investigation to unearth further corruption at the expense of the American people and the undermining of US national security.”

Under the initiative launched in 2012, undercover marshals have been allowed to monitor and observe American residents in airports and on flights.

Marshals would observe how passengers behaved, including how usually they used the lavatory, sweating or fidgeting.

Passengers could possibly be adopted even if they weren’t on a terrorism watch record or suspected of a crime.

The choice to finish the scheme comes after Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard stated she was positioned on a watchlist when she was a Congresswoman during the Biden administration.

Gabbard claimed she was put on the record after she criticized then-Vice President Kamala Harris’ management expertise.

In a press release, the DHS accused the Biden administration of utilizing its affect to take away political allies from watchlists.

The Department claimed William Shaheen, husband of Democrat and New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen, was excluded from review despite touring with a identified or suspected terrorist. It stated he was exempted from the record after his spouse lobbied the TSA on his behalf.
